Toil and Trouble

by Lauren Gunderson

Directed by Brandon Raghu

February 2-March 3, 2024

Underemployed thirtysomething roommates Matt, Beth, and Adam are officially in a rut...and the 2008 Recession. The fancy MBA is a non-starter, gig work is barely covering the bills, and the only one with a real job is treated like a glorified intern. But when take-out fortune cookies start hitting a little too close to home, a darkly-hilarious scheme to conquer an island nation will forge the three together—if it doesn’t drive them apart first. Toil and Trouble is a modern, punchy (but still bloody) adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth by award-winning playwright Lauren Gunderson, about bros, situationships, unrelenting ambition, and the San Francisco Giants.
